YOUNG COMPOSERS COMPETITION

The Young Composers’ Competition runs alongside the Adam International Cello Festival and Competiton and is open to composers under the age of 30 enrolled in or are graduates from a New Zealand secondary or tertiary level School of Music. The winning composition is a compulsory requirement in the round two repertoire of the Festival and is also performed at the finals gala concert.

The 2009 competition brief was to compose a short encore-like piece,  ideally taking into account the repertoire for the 2nd round of the  competition (Beethoven - Sonata op 102 No 1 or Sonata op 102 No 2 and one of the following Sonatas: Rakhmaninov, Miaskovsky No 2, Prokofiev, Schnittke No 1).  The piece was to be based on a theme from Haydn to commemorate the 200th anniversary of his death.
